Dear Mom,

You are not the author of your own story.

This statement goes against everything our world would have you believe.

The message has been loud and clear: you create yourself through your own choices and actions. You make your own destiny.

The results of this idea have been disastrous.

If you’ve thought about having an abortion, it’s because you have come to view the blessing of being able to create life as an enemy in the way of your freedom.

Although motherhood has become do despised in our time, you were made for it. This means you are not self-made.

You answer to something outside of yourself.

The Creator

Know that the Lord Himself is God;

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.

Psalm 100:3

You are a creature made in the image of God. Since the beginning, the temptation for us all is to believe that, as creatures, we can control the future. We live on our terms in defiance of the One who made us. We deceive ourselves into thinking that we are the source of our law. Good and evil are things we define, down to the question of who lives and who dies.

But your life is not your own.

God is the One who has given you life. His Word is the ultimate source of authority. The truth is, you are the handiwork of another. You do not belong to yourself and yet, you have dignity, worth and value, like the child you carry. This baby is being formed in your womb by the same God who knit you together in the womb of your mother.

What Is Your God?

because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever…

Romans 1:25

You know this God. He made you and he is forming your baby even now (Psalm 139:13-16). Although all people know Him, we don’t honor or give thanks to Him. Because of sin, we rebel against His authority. We suppress and substitute the truth about Him, longing instead to serve the things that He made.

All humans have something or someone sitting on the throne of our hearts. These are what make us happy and give meaning to our lives. We all worship something.

So, what do you worship?

What holds the weight in your life? What do you sacrifice for? What are you trusting in to give you approval, comfort, security and control over the world around you? What do you fear losing the most?

That is your god.

It doesn’t matter what form your idol takes. The point is you are looking to that thing or person to give you what you can only find in God Himself. You are believing a lie. Offering up your own baby to a false god will not give you fulfillment, significance, or peace. We were all made to worship. But, abortion is false worship.

The Bad News

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder…

Matthew 15:19

God has written His law on your heart in the form of a conscience (Romans 2:15). His Word commands you not to murder (Exodus 20:13). Abortion is murder at every age and every stage. From the moment of conception, a new life is being formed within you that is distinct from your own.

God has not given you a “choice” to make, but a command to obey.

(Luke 6:46).

Abortion is not an act of self-denial. It may feel like the righteous thing to do. But do not deceive yourself. It is a selfish choice motivated by self-preservation.

You will stand before God and answer not only for this little one, but for an entire life of sin. Breaking God’s law has eternal consequences. No amount of goodness or merit in yourself will satisfy the debt you owe to a perfect judge. He will not overlook any offenses. What will you do with your guilt and shame on that Day (Hebrews 9:27,10:26)?

You cannot make yourself right with God or deliver yourself from His judgment. You are in a broken relationship with your Creator that you cannot fix.

The Good News

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God…”

1 Peter 3:18.

The Good News is that there is a sacrifice that can save you. There is innocent blood that will take away your guilt and restore you to true worship. The Son of God was executed on a cross two thousand years ago so that you would not have to offer up your son or daughter. The same God who made you took on human form in the person of Jesus Christ.

He became a baby.

Out of His great love for sinners like us (Romans 5:8), He lived the perfect life that we have not lived. He went to the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. He takes our curse and becomes the sacrifice that removes divine wrath from us (Romans 3:23-25). The Gospel is that the only innocent man that ever lived was treated as sinful, in order that we who are guilty could be treated as righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21).

He died and on the third day rose again, forever defeating sin and death. He is the victorious King. Salvation is the gift of God through faith in Him, apart from any works (Ephesians 2:8-9). He gives forgiveness and eternal life to all who turn from sin and put their trust in Him as Savior and Lord.  The call of this message is to repent and believe such wonderful news (Acts 17:30)!

HIStory

Dear Mom, if you are pregnant, you are already a mother. Having an abortion will not change that. It will make you the mother of a dead child. God has called you to love, care for, and protect your precious baby. Regardless of how they came to be, he calls them a gift and a blessing (Psalm 127:3). You may be considering abortion for the first time. You may have aborted previous children. Either way, know that there is still hope for you. It does not mean that the road ahead will be easy. But you can know and experience the grace of God’s love and have peace with Him through Jesus Christ.

Realize this is the story He is telling. Plead with Him to help you see the role he created you to fill. I beg you, do not trust in your own feelings or wisdom. Trust in the Lord and in His word (John 17:17). He will help you and provide everything that you need to carry and raise your baby. Please allow God’s people to serve you. We will do everything we can to take care of your needs and support you. We will walk alongside you through this pregnancy and beyond. Please have mercy on your precious child. Come to Christ that you and your baby may live!
